EVE SPECTRUM: 4K AND HDMI 2.1, THE PERFECT MONITOR FOR PS5 AND XBOX SERIES X?
Eve Technology is a little-known company in Italy, founded in 2013 in Finland and climbed to global headlines with the 2-in-1 Eve V notebook . This laptop was the protagonist of a very successful crowfunding campaign on Indiegogo: the initial goal was to reach € 67,000, in the end the fundraising exceeded one million euros.
Now, however, it is the Eve Spectrum monitors that have
ended up in the spotlight , thanks to their specifications, which look not only
to the PC world but also to PS5 and Xbox Series X, and at a price at first
sight balanced for the features offered. From HDMI 2.1 to high resolution
support, nothing seems to be missing, even if some sacrifices have inevitably
been made.

Handyman monitors
Eve was good at understanding the wishes of gamers, both
those on PC and consoles. Spectrum monitors in fact contain within them, at
least on paper, everything a player could want from a monitor. The three
models, all 27 inches, differ in resolution, refresh rate and peak brightness,
limited in the basic variant, called Model 1. In this case, the IPS panel has a
resolution of 2560x1440 pixels , an 8-bit color depth. (10-bit thanks to the
A-FRC) and a native 144 Hz refresh rate, but can go up to 165 Hz thanks to
overclocking. The peak brightness is 450 Nit, however, it depends on the
settings used (the company declares that during use it usually reaches 400
Nit).
The Model 2 variant improves the peak brightness (750 Nit,
typical 650 Nit) and brings the refresh rate to 240 Hz. Finally there is the
top of the Model 3 range, with 4K resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate , also in
able to reach the 750 peak Nit.
Already at this point the specifications show interesting
products, but that's not all, because these monitors almost look like Swiss
army knives, thanks to compatibility with a large number of different
standards. All variants integrate HDR10, G-Sync and FreeSync , while HDMI 2.1
is only available on Model 2 and Model 3.
These are therefore compatible with ALLM, the automatic game
mode, and with VRR, a technology similar to G-Sync and FreeSync but designed
for televisions. Each variant is equipped with an HDMI and a DisplayPort, while
the claimed response time is 1 ms.
The price starts from $ 399 for the basic model up to $ 649
for the more advanced one, to which, however, another $ 100 must be added for
the table stand, sold separately. Availability is schedule for the end of the
year for Model 2 and Model 3, Model 1 instead should arrive within the first
three months of 2021.
To remain in an attractive price range for the public, the
Full Led backlight has been sacrificed , to which it has been a more classic
Edge Led is preferred. A sacrifice necessary to reduce costs, which would have
well exceeded € 1000, even if the combination of IPS panel and Edge Led backlighting
places obvious limits in quality.
The fact remains that for characteristics and prices these
Eve Spectrum are really interesting monitors, both for PC gamers and for future
buyers of next gen consoles, but they will have to be tested in the field to
understand their true potential.
